Summer Camp comes in many flavors!
Summer camp is something that comes in as many varieties as children do, with activities and events that are just as unique. Camps can be chosen based on the child’s interests, favorite sports, out door activities, water activities, academic enhancement, nurturing artistic and musical skills, trying new and challenging things, plus so much more. The list of options is much broader than you will remember from your own childhood.
Traditional Summer Camp
Traditional summer camp offers you the activities you would expect such as hiking camping, canoeing, and crafts. In addition children will learn about nature, sports, artistic expression, team work, leader ship skills, and how to make new friends. Depending on the area of the country you live in these camps may also offer spring and winter programs for school breaks. (More about Traditional Summer Camp here)
Adventure, Academic, and Art Camps
Camps can be very specialized depending on your child’s needs and interests. A risk-taking high energy child can enjoy a summer camp that challenges them; with activities such as repelling, white water rafting, extended canoe trips, rock climbing, survival back packing, and even more!
For a book worm, they may be coaxed out of their room at a camp that not only has other kids with similar interests but that will offer a variety of fun activities such as marine science, robotics, and animal studies. These could get the child involved in their interest instead of just reading about it.
For the budding artist there are camps that specialize in everything from creative writing to dancing and every genre in between. There are camps that specifically teach and nurture a child’s passion whether that means magic, music, performing arts, drawing, or photography. An artistic child can find their niche in these varieties of a summer camp.
Special Needs, Behaviors and Sports
Because every child can enjoy camping, hiking, and other summer camp activities if given the right circumstances, many camps are offered to children with disabilities, disorders, or even something as simple as allergies. These camping programs cater to children with these special needs so they can connect with children like themselves in a fun, challenging, and entertaining environment.
There are also summer camps which have special programs for children who are struggling with behavioral issues as well as camps that can help children cope with emotional problems and weight issues.
Sports camps may be just the thing to keep an active athletic child entertained for a long summer. The sports summer camps are offered in every sport from aerobics to yoga and every thing in between.
